All-American Scholars

Congratulations to all the 2009-2010
Pop Warner All-American Scholars!

This year Pop Warner announced that a record number of All-American Scholar applications were submitted - nearly 10,000 in total. Out of that, 32 Hillsborough Dukes were selected for national recognition!

As a result of being selected as a Pop Warner All-American Scholar, the awardees listed below are all invited to attend the 50th Annual All-American Scholar Awards Tribute and Banquet, that will take place on Friday, May 28 & Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA.  Some FAQ's about the banquet are listed at the bottom of this page.

The Scholastic Banquet is a fun filled evening wherein the Pop Warner community gathers to honor all of our All-American scholars and presents our senior scholar-athletes with scholarships, recognizes our notable award winners who serve as role models for our participants, and congratulates the top volunteers in each region. This special night draws approximately 2,000 people from across the country and starts with a general reception, followed by dinner and features a silent auction, a special autograph signing and special appearances by NFL mascots and other characters.

2010 Event Schedule:

  • May 28th – 6:30 pm - Friday Tribute (5th & 6th Grades)
  • May 29th – 9:00 am - Saturday Tribute (7th & 8th+ Grades)
  • May 29th – 6:30 pm - 50th Annual Scholastic Banquet

POP WARNER ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLAR PROGRAM:

Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status.  This process begins at the association level and up through each of the eight Pop Warner regions to the national level.  In 2009, over 400,000 kids participated in Pop Warner. As our numbers once again reached record levels, 280+ First Team members, over 5,000 Second Team members and 2,000+ Honorable Mention scholars were named as Academic All-Americans at the National Level for 2008-2009.

The Pop Warner Little Scholars All-American Program requires a minimum 96% grade point average to apply for All-American status. After the applications have been processed, Pop Warner determines National First Team All-Americans (35 football, 35 cheer per grade), National Second Team All-Americans and National Honorable Mention Scholars.

ALL-AMERICAN SELECTION PROCESS:

A final score is calculated for each student that consists of up to 100 points (85%) for the student's grades for the prior school year, along with up to 18 points (15%) awarded for the attached Addendum sheet of activities and achievements.

Once the scores have been calculated, First Team All-Americans are selected. The top 35 football players and 35 cheerleaders per grade (plus ties) are selected as National First Team All-Americans.

Second Team All-Americans are then determined by Pop Warner based upon the number of applications that were submitted for that year.

ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLAR BANQUET FAQ's:

Question:  What is the All-American Scholar National Tribute like?

Answer:  The Tribute sessions are held on Friday night and Saturday morning depending on the scholars grade level. This event can be compared to a graduation ceremony as each scholar will be called up onto the stage and recognized for their scholastic efforts. The tribute also features a motivational speaker who speaks for 10-15 minutes and an exciting raffle at the end of the event.

Question:  What is the All-American Scholar National Banquet like?

Answer:  This can only be described as one of the premier events on the Pop Warner calendar. This event usually draws 2,000 people and during the event our Senior Scholar First Team Scholarships are presented, each regions scholars are recognized, and our National awards are handed out to some of today’s brightest sports stars. The event includes dinner and lasts around 3 hours. At the end of the banquet all of the scholars in attendance are invited to come up and get autographs from our award winners.

Question:  What is the Banquet Dress Code?

Answer:  For our 50th anniversary in Philadelphia, the event is Black Tie Optional, but formal or business dress is perfectly acceptable for families attending. However, please no shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, jerseys or flip flops.  If you have any questions on the dress code, please contact the National Office at 215-752-2691 ext 22.

Question:  How do I register for the Banquet?

Answer:  All registration will be done online on www.popwarner.com.  Please do not forget to send your 5x7 photo directly to the national office before Wednesday, May 5, 2010.  Please include the scholars name on the back of the picture.
